Hi everyone! I hope your all enjoying your weekend so far! I have a lot of homework and studying to do so I have a busy weekend ahead of me. What are your weekend plans?
I haven't been feeling to great the last couple of days and got a really bad head and stomach ache yesterday. I went to bed early last night with hopes of feeling better this morning, but still wasn’t feeling all that good. I think it might be because I haven't been drinking enough water lately, and I’m a little stressed out because of school.
Since my eats haven't been the least bit exciting, I decided to write a post about my kitchen staples today instead.
My mom goes shopping for groceries about twice a week. We always get fresh fruit, veggies, dairy products, bread etc. Sometimes, I run out of my must-have food items (Cereal, Yogurt, Fruits, Bread etc.) during the week so I go to the grocery store to get them…but somehow I always leave with more than I wanted! :)
These are my kitchen staples! I like to have these food items on hand because I can make so many different meals with them. (A lot of these items are also kitchen staples for my mom.) We buy these items almost every week:
- Cereal
- Oats
- Rye Bread
- Whole Wheat English Muffins
- Carba Nada Noodles
- Rewe Feine Felt Noodles
- Plain Low Fat Yogurt
- Alpro Soya Light
- Quark
- Cottage Cheese
- Babybel Light
- Deli Meat: Turkey Breast
- Frozen Raspberries
- Baby Carrots
- Bananas
- Kiwis
And these are some extra things I like to have on hand, too:
- Designer Whey All Natural Protein Powder
- PB2
- Crunchy Peanut Butter
- Snack Bars
- Sweetener (Stevia in the Raw)
- Instant Chicken Noodle Soup (Short ingredients list. Perfect for a sick day!)
- Nuts: Almonds, Cashews, Peanuts, Walnuts, Pistachios
What are your must-have food items? How often do you go grocery shopping? Are there any special items you like to keep on hand but your family doesn’t?
I love grocery shopping. The fact that it's one of the highlights of my week might suggest that I need more hobbies. And I always need to buy more almond milk, eggs, raisins and apples.
ReplyDeleteAhhh this is good to know! Thanks for sharing your list :)
ReplyDeleteHey girl! Happy Weekend!
ReplyDeleteI have had that Hi-Lo cereal before, have not seen that in a long time!
Apples, Almond Milk, Spinach, Whole Wheat Pitas, Veggies, Cereal, just some of my staples!
Ooh are you living in Germany? Sorry only just started reading your blog! I love Germany!
ReplyDeleteWe've got a lot of the same food staples! I go grocery shopping about once a week, but I'm lucky because there's a small grocery store that's only a 5 minute walk from my house if I need more of something.
ReplyDeleteI always need to have tomatoes on hand (personally,I looooove Seeberger Dried Tomatoes!). And milk. And oats. And nuts / nut butter! :D
ReplyDeleteOkay, there's a lot more I could add here, but those are my "essentials"... :P
You order the PB2,don't you? Because I've never seen that here in Germany before!!
I've wanted to try PB2 for the longest time, but I can never find it in stores! My essentials are rolled oats, dates, fruit, cereal (PB Puffins!), veggie burgers, almond butter, Greek yogurt and Pure bars. And I always end up getting wayyyyyy too much at the store too ;)
ReplyDeletemmmm this is all some great stuff!! I must have nut butters, oats, dates, bananas, almond or soy milk, coffee and some sort of cereal!
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff :) I MUST have almond milk, any sort of bean, frozen veggies, assorted grains and sriracha on hand at all times. If I have those items, I can always make a a tasty healthful improv meal!
ReplyDeleteI tend to go shopping every 2 days or so - especially after those days when my children have been very hungry! The fresh fruit and vegetables tend to go very quickly - which I don't mind as it means my family is getting in their nutrients.
ReplyDeleteIt varys on how often I go shopping; sometimes once a week and sometimes a couple. As for staples: bananas, oats, yogurts and broccoli are usually on the list!
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon!
Good staples! Mine are definitely oats, almond milk, bananas, almond butter, goat cheese, spinach, avocados, whole grain tortillas, and apples. Probably lots of others, too, but those are the ones that come to mind immediately. :) I hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of the same staples! Bananas, almond milk and peanut butter are probably my top 3 and gasp, I'm out of almond milk right now!! I'm seriously contemplating a trip to the store...
ReplyDeleteOoo good stuff here.... we share a lot of the same staples! Bananas, apples, sweet potatoes, greek yogurt, cottage cheese and carrots are always in my house!
ReplyDeletei love all of that stuff! except for the dairy stuff :P haha but oats are serioulsy the best :)
ReplyDeleteMy must haves are cottage cheese, yogurt, pumpkin, tofu, apples, bananas, nut butter, frozen veggies, lettuce, and kashi go lean. I think I could live off of that!
ReplyDeleteAbsolute musts: oats, frozen fruit, bananas, soy milk, protein powder, peanut butter. So jealous that you can buy PB2! They don't sell it in my area...
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon! Staples on my shppping list: Oats, Muesli, Yogurt, Fresh/frozen veggies, fruits!
ReplyDeleteawesome staples!!
ReplyDeleteMine are raw nuts and seeds, buckwheat, gojjiberries, bananas, greens, kelp noodles, coconut butter, carob and chocolate powder, and coconut oil
My staples are pretty similar. Bananas, almond milk, greens, oats and peanut butter are the top ones for me.
ReplyDeleteHey thanks for stopping by my blog! This was my first time checking out yours, and it's really great. I've been contemplating buying protein powder for the first time. Do you like designer whey? Does it taste chalky or chemically?
ReplyDeleteAll of your food looks so great! You are so lucky to be brought up in a home that values nutrition--something I definitely did not get! My must-haves are: fresh produce, coffee, and a cupboard stocked with Gluten-Free flours for all of my baking fiascos :) I hope you are feeling better, Shannon. Tummy pains and headaches are THE worst!!! xoxo, Cara
ReplyDeleteI love learning about others' grocery staples. I'm the girl peeking into different carts at check-out because I think it's fascinating what other people choose to eat.:-)
ReplyDeleteMy staples: spinach, asparagus (when in season I eat it every day), cottage cheese, eggs, liquid egg whites, shirataki noodles, organic turkey breast, almond milk, goat cheese and red onions. I buy those items nearly *every* week; everything else rotates. I often stop at the store on my way home from work to buy items I'd want to eat the same day, like salmon. :)
Aww *hugs* I hope you feel better very soon!
ReplyDeleteI like looking at your staple eats :) I didn't know you could buy Stevia where you were? x
what a great kitchen!! I'd feel right at home there!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Stevia!!
my kitchen musts are: carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, broc. slaw, cucumbers, at least 4 types of salad dressing, cheese, deli meat, frozen chicken, sprouted grain bread, string CHEESE, carrots, carrots, protein bars, tofu, yogurt! :D
I really enjoy grocery shopping...too much really, but I am currently on a new budget which allows me to grocery shop once a week and if I can make a trip to the farmers market for veggies instead of the grocery store. My staples change from week to week but there are always whole grain (bread, cereal, oats, rice, etc), organic milk, organic eggs, fruits, veggies, cheese, and of course a few spurgles here and there:)
ReplyDeleteMust have food items: some form of nut butter, cottage cheese, PROTEIN POWDER, bananas (they're a must!), kashi go lean cereal, soy milk, oh gosh...the list goes on and on! :P
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your staples :)
ReplyDeleteI love to have organic foods around the house but my family ultimately doesn't care. I don't care either, but if something is on sale that is one of those "organic" brands, I don't see why it's not worth buying.
These are all awesome staples, a lot of them are similar to mine! PB2 was the first peanut flour I used, but now I use Protein Plus Peanut flour. :)
