Good morning everyone, I hope your all having a great weekend so far! I loved reading all about your October goals in my previous post. Feel free to leave a comment and share yours if you haven't already. :)
I spent my Saturday at home, went grocery shopping with my mom and took a nap. I haven't been in the mood for much lately. I’ve been struggling with ED thoughts these past couple of days but I’m not going to let them take over again! I’m trying to stay positive and trying to listen to my body.
I have been trying to add some more variety to my meals and so far so good. Here are some of my recent eats: (these are not all my eats, just some of them that I took pictures of!)
Two slices of whole wheat bread topped with cream cheese and turkey deli meat, with a fresh kiwi on the side. This is one of my go to lunches when I’m busy or in the mood for something simple. Yum!
I know, I know, Summer is over but I really love fresh berries so who says I cant enjoy them during the Fall? I will keep buying fresh berries at the grocery store until they don’t sell them anymore. Then I will stock up on frozen berries to help me survive the Winter! :)
I am really loving Kay’s Naturals protein cereal! Who says I have to eat it outta a bowl with milk? It’s tasty even right out of the bag, topped on oatmeal or in yogurt!
Who says I cant eat out of an almost empty yogurt container so I don’t have to worry about washing dishes afterwards? I love adding random cereal, mixed nuts, chocolate chips etc. to an almost empty yogurt container with a splash of Alpro Soya light milk. So good! :)
Who says you cant go crazy with yogurt toppings and mix ins? In the bowl: Greek yogurt, peanuts, walnuts, Kellogg’s Special K cereal, frozen raspberries, fresh strawberries, cinnamon and dark chocolate chips. This was enjoyed whilst reading blogs. :)
I have been loving this lunch lately! I topped two pieces of rye bread with PB2, banana slices and cinnamon with baby carrots on the side. This actually keeps me full for about 2/3 hours and then I have another small meal.
During my ED days I would read things online or in magazines like “don’t eat carbs for dinner, only protein because it burns more fat”, or “always eat some protein with carbs” and the list goes on. I believed that and wouldn’t dare eat carbs without some protein!
Now, I realize how stupid that was and that everything I read in those magazines or on the internet where just a bunch of lies. This past Summer, I understood that it was totally fine to eat carbs (without protein!) for dinner…it’s not going to kill me!
We should not be scared of food, it shouldn’t control our lives! Food is not our enemy, it’s fuel for our bodies.
Click here to read the truth behind the top diet and weight loss myths, it’s pretty interesting!
What helps you stay positive? Have you believed any diet/weight loss myths? What did you do this weekend?
Powerful post!! Those magazines are a load of junk, I absolutely hate how they fill our minds with such lies. I used to believe the whole no snacking before bed, but now I have one every night! I'm hungry and my body doesn't know what time it is, so I kicked that myth in the butt haha ;)
ReplyDeleteWay to stay strong girl!! Keep up the great work :)
I LOVE THIS POST. you are amazing do you know that Shannon?
ReplyDeleteOkay first of all I'm so sorry you are struggling. Its normal but I'm glad you are keeping your head High! The best thing is just don't compare yourself to others and realize that love is more important than what you look like anyday. (why would you want to waste time worrying about how you look and lose time with people you love?)
ALSO
yeah i know there are so manyyy diet myths out there! It is insane. one thing comes right after the other. I think its best to find out what works for you because there are always 'studies' like that and wee will never know for CERTAIN
i defs used to believe those silly mags!! but im sooo glad iv got my head on straight now :)
ReplyDeleteI love eating Kay's Protein Cereal straight out of the bag. you totally just reminded me i need to order some more! I also love strawberries right now... they're still pretty good, so you have to take advantage of them while they last!
ReplyDeleteThere is so much conflicting information about diet and nutrition, it's difficult to know what to believe, especially if you have issues with food. I tried the no carbs for dinner things for a while, but I always just ended up craving carbs. Know I have what I fancy - sometimes I have carbs and sometimes I don't.
ReplyDeleteThose myths are so hard to get sucked into! :( They make things like carbs and fat sound like the enemy..
ReplyDeleteAll your eats look wonderful by the way! I've really been wanting to try some of that Kay's natural cereal!
Caffeine helps me stay super positive, if that counts, lol. It also makes me super jittery, so I don't drink coffee or anything much. But if I'm ever feeling kinda down in the dumps I just text my best friend and she'll say a million nice things about me which always makes me feel better and stay positive! I'm glad your staying positive, I've never had an ed, but you're still a huge inspiration with your drive to stay healthy : )
ReplyDeleteGreat realization girl! It is hard NOT to believe what is in the media and takes a strong person to see and distinguish fact from fiction. =)
ReplyDeleteI say eat as much cereal as you want out of the bag or with yogurt or however you want. :) My fave way to eat it is in a coffee mug with milk. Tastes better than eating it out of a bowl for some reason. ;)
ReplyDeleteHave you ever tried Goat Cream Cheese? Trader Joe's sells it and it's FABULOUS! It would be awesome on your turkey sandwich. :)
I love making yogurt messes. Love throwing in all sorts of toppings like yours. Yum!
ReplyDeleteI had a great weekend with friends but now I'm exhausted. It was worth it though.
This is so true girl!! I used to read all that crap and believe it. That's all it is, a bunch of crap ;D So glad you are learning to listen to your body! It really is smart and knows exactly what you need. You're awesome! I always eat yogurt out of the container to save from dirtying a dish! ;D
ReplyDeleteI hate all the diet fads, it drives me nuts, society is crazy sometimes, its just how it is ; )
ReplyDeleteLove the kays cereal! Im all out, I need more in my life!
Have a great start to the week!
xo
This is such a great post,Shannon!
ReplyDeleteI avoided eating carbs in the evening for an awfully long time and it was SO terrible! Especially because I feared carbs in general,I was NEVER really satisfied and in the end,I couldn't sleep because my stomach was crying for some food :(
By the way,Kay's Natural Cereal looks SO good! Do you order it in the internet or something? I've never seen it anywhere here in Germany!
I share your love of eating straight out of an almost empty container of yogurt!! Love to add pumpkin, puffins, cinnamon and PB... and love no dishes =)
ReplyDeleteI love making a mixed up chunky cereal like yours too! =) The more add ins the better! It keeps things interesting <3
ReplyDeletexoxo
oh man I don't know why I have never thought to use cream cheese in a sandwich with turkey! oh man oh man that sounds amazing :)
ReplyDeleteToppings are the best - and I guess one way would be to remember that weight and what you look like aren't that important in the grand scheme of things. I'd rather focus my attentions on accomplishing something, or helping someone, than fitting into a certain size skirt or having a certain waist circumference. What a waste of gray matter!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award, pass it on ;)
i'm totally with you on falling for those weight loss magazine tips! i would follow those tips so closely. then while i was in recovery, i realized how truly stupid they are haha. and so true...who says you can't go crazy on the mix-ins?? not me for sure ;)
ReplyDeleteLove this post!
ReplyDeleteTo stay positive I focus on what I've done that is positive, such as accomplishments. If you've done it before, you can do it again, right?
Those magazines are total crap yet I admit to falling victim to them every so often... those articles are so easy to get sucked into
ReplyDeleteI used to get taken in by those mags as well. I never used to eat 2-3hrs before bed. Now If I'm hungry before bed ill grab some nuts or even have more fruit!
ReplyDeleteAwesome post girl! Don't let those evil thoughts get in the way of making more delicioussss eats!
ReplyDeleteI really want to try Kay's protein cereal, it looks and sounds yummy!
After reading this I'm really craving some fresh strawberries haha :)
You can enjoy fresh berries anytime! I enjoy them all year long!
ReplyDeleteHooray for conquering your ED thoughts and listening to your bod!
All those fad diets are complete trash! I can't believe I actually used to believe them :D I'm so glad I came to my senses. I love cereal with soy yogurt! Protein cereals are one of my favorites. Especially Kashi.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more! I used to read and believe all of those diet "tips" and "tricks" which just led to confusion and stress! Listening to your body, no matter what time of day it is, is the most important thing. (:
ReplyDeleteGreat post. And I love your blog, by the way!
Too right - who says! I'm glad you're managing to beat the ED thoughts :-)
ReplyDeleteThat toast sandwich looks great; that was always my favourite when I could eat bread... and I'm still buying berries too; love them too much to stop just because they're out of season!
Awesome post!
ReplyDeleteThose kiwi fruit look amazing! I'm craving some fresh tropical fruit now!
Hi Shannon, thanks for dropping by my blog. I've just read your about me and I so totally wish that I was where you are at 16 years!! Where are you living at the moment?
ReplyDeleteshannon, you are soooo right that these things on the internet and in magazines are total lies. you are already one step ahead of satan to realize when the thoughts come, they are lies!
ReplyDeleteremember, it is for freedom Christ has set us free! Therefore, you are already free! Don't let satan ever talk you out of it! xo
love ya girl! ~ katie
I am so with you! I eat cereal out of the bag all the time, and yogurt out of the almost empty container, of course!
