Locks Of Love

If you follow me on Twitter then you already know that I got my hair cut yesterday! At first it was just because I wanted a change, but then my mom suggested I donate it to Locks of Love.

Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.I’ve always had bad experiences with hair stylists, so I was really nervous when I was getting my hair cut. You know how some people hate going to the dentist? Well, I hate going to the hair salon..I rather go to the dentist instead. I wanted to get my hair cut shorter last year but chickened out. Sounds crazy, I know.

I got about 12 inches cut off.

Haircut Before and After 1

I’ve always had long hair, ever since I was a little girl so this was kind of a big deal to me. I like my hair a lot better when it’s short though and I think I’ll be keeping it this way from now on.

I think Locks of Love is a great organization. Knowing that a girl who is suffering from long-term medical hair loss will get a wig with my hair is great feeling.

Now, lets rewind to last night. My family and I went out to dinner with my aunt. We went to a local Italian restaurant and went to the Christmas market, too.

I ordered the tomato soup (with croutons) and a plain salad. I also got some white bread.

CIMG5348

The tomato soup was my favorite. It tasted like a bunch of pureed tomatoes with basilica.

CIMG5346

The salad was huge!

CIMG5345

The white bread was warm and doughy!

Today, my mom and I have to do some cleaning and I’m going to try film another video if I have time. Christmas is right around the corner..how did that happen?

Have you ever heard of Locks Of Love? What is your favorite kind of soup? Am I the only one that has had so many bad experiences at the hair salon?

*This is not a sponsored post. I’m not getting paid to talk about Locks of Love in any way.*

  2. I wish I had known about Locks of Love when I got my hair cut last year! I also has very long hair and got even more than 12 inches cut off (in the end,it was a little bit shorter than yours is now). I bet that would've been enough to donate! ;)

I like mushroom, potato and tomato soup best. But I am a soup person in general; when it's hot,I often eat it cold! :P

  3. I'm familiar with Locks of Love. A friend of ours in town purposely grows her hair then has it cut to donate. I think it's a wonderful idea. You sure did get it cut! We need a front view though! Tomato soup is one of my favorites. The best I ever had was when I was on a trip to Italy and I was in Venice (sigh...) one of my favorite place on earth. I would love to go back but Ralph won't travel outside the US. Merry Christmas to you and your family!!

  6. omg your hair looks SO CUTE :) I love it.

I planned on donating last time I got my hair cut, but the lady did not understand what I wanted and she started hacking away at my hair :( I was devastated. I have to wait until my highlights grow out, but I plan on growing my hair out until I can do it!

  11. That's so sweet of you! I've had bad experiences at hair salons, too. Thankfully I found a lady I always go to and she always knows what I want. I freeaakkk out if my hair is just a tid bit too short. I like short hair on other people but for me it just doesn't look right. Very good thing your doing though :)

  15. Oh gosh I bet your hair feels so amazing now! I always wanted to donate but I can never make it quite long enough before I just HAVE to cut it!

  16. Good for you! I've never cut enough length off my hair for it to be worth donating but this is such a great gesture, just in time for the holidays! Merry Christmas Shannon :) xx

  17. You are SO amazing for doing this. Working with kids that have cancer, it breaks my heart to see kids lose their hair (believe it or not, they care more about losing their hair than feeling nauseous from the chemo) so I salute you doing such an amazing thing. My hair is way too thin to donate otherwise I would be right there with you.

  18. I bet you look GORGEOUS with the new cut! And what a great cause you are helping with. You should be very proud of yourself. :)

  19. I don't waste money at the salon, and just have my mom cut my hair (which is nice and long).
I think that if you donate to Locks of Love, you should not do it once. Grow your hair long, and do it again. That is the best way, because you end up helping someone else again rather than just one person :-)
My favorite soup is lentil chili, or minestrone soup.

  23. What a fabulous cause- very admirable of you! Hope you're happy with the haircut, from the looks of it, it looks great :)! I had several bad experiences at hairdressers growing up (they used to cut off too much) so like you, I spent a long time dreading the hair salon! Fortunately I have found a hairdresser who actually listens to me so haircuts are always a pleasant experience now!

  24. Oh I love your hair! It looks so cute!
I cut my hair quite a bit shorter last year but now I'm growing it again, I think long suits me better as my hair is so curly :-P
But your hair suits that long bob so much!
And I think you did an absolutely lovely thing by donating it!!
If I ever have a lot of my hair cut off I want to donate it too :-)
Your meal looks great and I love Christmas markets.
    Happy Christmas Eve!

  25. I wanted to do locks of love once, but my hair was just barely too short. My favorite soup is the tomato-basil parmesan soup I just made. I posted the recipe on my blog last Wednesday if you want to try it out! It's so good!

  26. I've heard of locks of love. We don't have it here in Australia...but I'm pretty sure we have something similar. I had the worst experience 2 months ago with a hair salon, they took way too much off. Now I'm trying to grow my hair back.

  27. I know a girl who donated her hair to locks of love. It's a great cause.

I'm not a big soup person, but on ocassion I do like French onion soup or minestrone soup.

  31. I've donated to Locks of Love before. The first time was the first time I cut my hair too, since I've had long hair (near my hips) forever. The second time, my hair was around mid-back level.

It's such a great feeling to know your hair will be used to make someone else feel special =]

  39. What a lovely thing to do. I hate going to the hairdressers too as they always try to convince me to have different styles which I know I cannot do at home. I have found a good one now and I only ever let her cut it now! One of my friends did a similar thing as she had super long hair. Such a lovely thing to do :)
